Honouring the sacred sentiment of Remembrance, while serving, promoting, and acting

Legion Week Poster

Legion week is a time when legion branches throughout the BC/Yukon open their doors to the public, create community, family events and promote remembrance.

Here are some examples of branch events: 

  1. Family Fun Day bbq's for the community (without bar service).
  2. A Freedom of the City parade and ceremony.
  3. Branch's hold ceremonies honoring youth in the programs they support
  4. Local teachers or principals nominate an exceptional student for a category a branch chooses, then they are invited to receive a certificate of appreciation
  5. School ceremonies are held to announce youth bursaries and scholarships.
  6. Tribute Tree Plantings are held with the Mayor in honor of local veterans.
  7. Branches contribute to refurbishing of neglected playgrounds or ballparks.
  8. Gardens of Remembrance are planted on city property. 
  9. Candlelight tribute, passing the symbolic Torch of Remembrance to the next generation. 
  10. Membership drives with young groups you sponsor.
  11. Local cable stations visit branches to interview their President.
  12. Local newspapers to write articles about Legion Week showcasing your community charitable work and volunteer work.
  13. Leading up to Canada Day, branches make a public media presentation at a school with hand outs
  14. Parties are thrown for Canada Day and local youth groups help to organize it.

We will be joining our Chamber of Commerce on July 1st in our memorial park to celebrate both Canada Day and Legion Week. The Legion Colour Party will participate in the Opening Ceremonies that recognize dignitaries and our Citizen of the Year. Legion members and the chamber will co-host a variety of events and activities for all ages throughout the day. These events will include free swimming, native dancing, face painting, petting zoo, bounce stations, adult bingo, music and adult rest stations. Youth groups will be invited to the legion for Sip and Paint (Moctails) and hopefully Battle of the Bands.
